Turkey's 800, 900, 1800 and 2100 and 2600 MHz auction to be held on 26 August

Ankara, 30 July 2015 - Information and Communication Technologies Authority (ICTA) Chair, Ömer Fatih Sayan, announced that the specifications for the 4G tender to be held on Aug. 26 were amended to put the "4.5G" technology into force, paving the way for the transition to 5G in Turkey through local means. By observance of maximum benefit to all stakeholders in the electronic communications sector in the country, including to consumers, the specifications of the International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) authorization tender, known as the 4G auction, were amended to bring forward a vision that aims to carry out domestic Research and Development (R&D) activities and to achieve a communication sector where local content ratio is higher.

Thus, Turkey aims to be one of the first countries that switch to 5G. In the tender, 20 frequency segments will be auctioned out at the 800, 900, 1800, 2100 and 2600 MHz bands . Following the tender, new technologies, including 5G, will be offered to consumers. Unlike the initial specifications of the tender scheduled in May 2015, the revised specifications stipulate the operators should use minimum "IMT-Advanced" technology in the new telecommunications infrastructures with the aim of enabling people to benefit from the most advanced technology.
