GEO on measures to support audiovisual operators that produce and broadcast public interest programmes
Bucharest, 10 June 2015 - The Romanian Government approved, through an Emergency Ordinance, some measures to support audiovisual operators that produce and broadcast specific information, education and cultural public interest programs. To this end, the government decided that audiovisual operators can benefit from funding under a State aid scheme amounting to approx. EUR 15 million. The validity of the state aid scheme shall be 1 July 2015 - 31 December 2016, with a possibility to be extended. State aid scheme will be developed in accordance with European legislation and state aid will be approved by Government Decision.
According to the new regulations, terrestrial broadcasting of public and private television services may continue in the analogue system, on a temporary basis, in the 174-230 MHz band [VHF (very high frequency)] - until December 31, 2016. This continuation is possible under a technical agreement issued by the National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications, on the following conditions:
- it produces no harmful interference on the radio stations using the radio spectrum in accordance with the international agreements in which Romania is a party;
- no protection is ensured from the radio stations that use the radio spectrum in accordance with the international agreements in which Romania is a party;
- on the date of the entry into force of this law, the radio frequencies for the provision of terrestrial broadcasting of public and private television services in VHF analog system have been already allocated/assigned.
