ANCOM Prepares a New Auction for DTT Multiplexes

Bucharest, 13 October 2015 - "The documentation of the auction for awarding the digital television multiplexes that are still available will be launched for consultation by the end of this year, and the auction will be initiated next year", declared Bogdan Iana, Executive Director of ANCOM, during the International Digital Forum held in Bucharest today.

In the new auction, 2 national multiplexes, 27 regional multiplexes and 18 local multiplexes will go under the hammer, as they were not awarded in the previous selection procedures.

Between March 2014 and March 2015, ANCOM organised three procedures for awarding DTT multiplexes, following which it awarded 3 national multiplexes and 14 regional and local multiplexes. The Authority has already awarded the licences for the use of radio spectrum for all the awarded multiplexes, as well as the assignment authorisations for the national multiplexes acquired by the National Radiocommunications Company.

A digital multiplex is a group of radio broadcasting and television programmes, additional multimedia services and other associated identification data transmitted from the emission stations to the end-users by terrestrial radio means, using digital modulation within the limits of a standard television channel/frequency block.

Starting from 17 June 2015, analogue terrestrial television stations stopped using the 474 – 790 MHz band (UHF band), whereas terrestrial broadcasting of public and private television services in analogue system, in the 174-230 MHz band will continue, on a temporary basis, until 31 December 2016.
